Taunggyi

2014 January,  The Long Trip - Myanmar, Taunggyi

Instead of going to Nyaungshwe near Inle Lake we decided to stop in Taunggyi. It is a touristic place but I guess for local people or the Chinese as we were almost the only Westerns there.
We found good accommodation in Thiri Yadanar Hotel in front of the Kimono house on No 26 Bogyoke Aung San Road. For 3 nights I paid 50 USD for double room.
Unfortunately, there is not much to do. At the hill nearby is Shwe Phone Pwint Pagoda. I went there for a walk and it was a nice one. Firstly, I got to Sutamuni Pagoda which is located at the south end of the town and near one military point I turned left uphill.
Near the pagoda is a small shop where you can buy cold drinks. They do not have Westerners there so they charged me a normal price for drink.
The view was perfect and if you have good weather there you have a chance to see Inle Lake.
In the town is an old post office and what surprised me, a lot of people speaks English. As one women explained to me there are Saturdays English classes.
