Looking for Etna Peak – Trip to Sicily part2
Next stop for us was Siracusa.
We were there late evening and firstly we found a nice restaurant and ordered some pizzas but it was like a lottery because everything was in Italian language. I’m allergic to an onion and luckily for me that one waiter spoke a little in English – now I know that onion is CIPOLLA in Italy.
Some names of vegetables were similar but not all of them. Everybody ordered and we were waiting for this surprise. The pizzas were good but not delicious and of course, like everywhere they added this special charges for service which is for me something strange but it is a different country – different culture.
Our walk wasn’t a long one, we were so tired, we went to the St. Lucija church where they prepared the statue of saint Lucija for the procession, and we went to the car.
Our place to sleep we found near the small road to the Canicattini Bagni. There is an agrotouristic place and at the end of the road there were old abandoned buildings and a place for a car and a tent.
This time we went sleeping at about 1 am and woke up at 7.30 am.
The plan was to visit once more the city of Syracuse to walk on the streets and to find a castle which was at the end of a peninsula. Streets are so different, sometimes really narrow sometimes really dirty and neglected but with this special ambience and really charming.
The entrance fee to the castle was 4 Euro for adults and EU citizen 18 – 25 years old - 2 Euro.
There were a colourfull parade and all small city around were prepere a costume and bands.
For me the castle was nothing special. The last attraction was an old amphitheatre.
Then we decided to start our way back to Trapani. We didn’t have any reflective vests but some parts of our trip we travelled via motorway.
From Siracusa we went via E45 to Catania and from Catania to Caltanissetta via motorway A19, there where many tunnels and nice views. First stop we had near Enna, and the second one in Agrigento but didn’t have enough time to see the Romans ruins and temples.
From Agrigento the same way to Trapani Airport. Of course, next time we will travel via motorway – it’s free and faster than local roads. If you have rented car you need to remember that there is many petrol stations without any service and in Trapani (Birgi) Airport there isn’t any station.
The closest Esso, which is the cheapest one, is 5km from airport on the way to Trapani.
