2013 November, The Long Trip, Philippines
The Underground River is a must see place in Puerto Princessa. It is 2 hours drive from the city. The tour costs 1500PHP but you can do it much cheaper. You need to apply for a permit in the Underground River Booking Office, 350 Rizal Avenue, PPR for 250PHP http://www.puerto-undergroundriver.com/tourism/
From the town there are minibuses to the San Jose bus terminal (near New Market). The ride should cost 10PHP. From there you need to take a bus to Sabang for 125 PHP one way (the last return was at 3 pm), the journey takes 2h. From Sabang there is a boat which costs 1500PHP for 6 people so if you share it you will pay 250PHP return. It will wait for you as to go to the Underground River. A paddling boat to see the caves is included in your permit.
Before the entrance I visited a place with big, monitor lizards.
Later on our guide told us a lot of stories about it. They have names for almost all stalagmites and stalactites inside.
We visited only a small part of the river as the rest is protected, there are a lot of bats and we saw a small snake resting inside.
