2013 July Wieliczka Poland
Wieliczka, a small town near
Cracov, is famous because of 700 years old salt mine, Unesco site http://www.wieliczka-saltmine.com/
There are few ways from Cracov
to Wieliczka:
The first option is to go by bus no 304 from the Kurniki street near the railway station. The ticket costs 4 zl (1 euro). Some buses might have a ticket machine inside. Sometimes, you’ll find them on a bus stop. It takes around 30 min.
You can also go by train. Machines selling tickets are on the platforms. It costs 4zl too. The journey is around 20 minutes long.
The third option is to get there by a minibus. Unfortunately, I haven’t checked prices for it.

The entrance of the salt mine
is 500 meters from the last train station in Wieliczka. The tourist tour takes
around 3 hours. Everything is made out of salt inside. The Chapel of St. Kinga is
the most incredible. It’s a popular venue for marriages. The salt mine
Wieliczka offers Health Resort and underground accommodation too. Two different
guided tours are available: Tourist Route and Miners’ One. Unfortunately, I had
time to visit only the first one. Inside you’ll find a restaurant too with reasonable
prices for food.
Wieliczka town is small and has
some old building and interesting places to see, the 3D painting of salt mine on
the main square.
